Startup Company Rea Wins Two New Competitive Grants

Published:11.03.21 — The Laboratory of Life Sciences Electronics (CLSE), headed by Professor Carlotta Guiducci at the EPFL's Institute of Bioengineering (School of Engineering), has worked with the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV)'s Obstetrics Unit led by Professor David Baud, to develop an innovative medical device capable of remotely monitoring the risk of preterm birth from home. The technology's translation is carried forward by a startup company named Rea.

Aleksandra Radenovic Promoted to Full Professor

The Beauty of Movement Explored Through Art and Science

Published:05.03.21 — EPFL College of Humanities (CDH) artists in residence worked with the Biorobotics Laboratory (BioRob) to create an innovative soft robot, which is on exhibition in the EPFL Pavilions. As part of the CDH artist-in-residence program, US-based artists Melissa Dubbin and Aaron S. Davidson worked with the BioRob Laboratory led by Auke Ijspeert, to create a unique visualization of the movement of an aquatic soft robot. The work is currently being presented at the newly rebranded EPFL Pavilions – formerly ArtLab – as part of the 'Nature of Robotics: An Expanded Field' exhibition. Focusing on the emerging perspectives and scenarios of the rapidly expanding field of robotics, the show lives at the crossroads of scientific research and the visual arts.

Water Influences the Stickiness of Hyaluronan

According to a new study by EPFL scientists, it also influences the behavior of far more water molecules than previously thought. Their findings – just published in Science Advances – open new avenues of research on the role water plays in the human body.
